extending RichTextArea

Hi

I'm requsted to extend RichTextArea to add it some functionalities.
I would like to implement the functionality of syntax highlighting.
For example when i type in the text area some key-words like if,
for ,while ... the should appear bigger or painted....

Could you give any advices on how to procede??
